Founded in 1991, Partners in Conservation (PIC) is a grassroots effort aimed at bolstering conservation efforts on the ground by respectfully involving and addressing the needs of local people. PIC currently is partnering with conservation, humanitarian, and education partners in Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and the United States. All projects and programs supported by PIC address a particular conservation challenge and are conceived, developed, and conducted by Rwandan and Congolese partners.
Now, nearly 20 years later, PIC still operates on the principle that the most powerful way to conserve endangered spaces is through empowering local people directly through education, job training, and fair-trade. By giving people the tools and means to create better lives for themselves, PIC ensures that the local people will, in turn, create a better future for the wild places and animals in Rwanda and DRC.
"I personally witnessed the success of PIC's conservation and humanitarian efforts while filming their projects in Rwanda. This experience strengthened my fifteen-year commitment and I continue to support PIC in any way I can. " ~Jack Hanna on his commitment to PIC
